I LOVE summer time!!! The heat is on full blast here in Florida, and the beach is only 40 minutes away! I haven’t been able to get to the beach as much as I want lately.
My new ‘Big-girl’ job is full time and the weekends are full of other motherly duties. Still, I want to feel like I’m enjoying this summer, so I have perfected my messy beach wave hair routine!

Here are a few tips to getting that messy beach hair without having to go to the beach.
1. I start by washing my hair on the first day. I dont use any special shamp/condt combo. I just wash normally. Condition the ends only. Then towel dry.
Enter Products!! I use a bit of Aussie Mousse. Yepp, the junk from CVS. I apply it mainly to the roots, and work it in to the back of my hair for lift. Then I use a dime size amount (i have middle of the back length hair) of (Un)Dressing Cream from B&B. This stuff was just recently brought to my attention by my hair stylist, and it is amazing!! You can put it on wet hair and air dry for a matte frizz free finish. Or you can apply it to your roots and blow dry for the ‘second day’ hair look on the first day.
Note: I do have to mention that the type of cut you have also works wonders for this messy undone look. In the pic below I have all one length hair in the back with only a few layers framing my face. It was much harder to achieve the look in the back and around the face b/c all the hair wanted to do was lay flat.
This second picture has my new cut. (Thanks Aimee!!!!) This is like a long mullet. lol! Its short layers on top of my longer hair. It’s really choppy, and makes great waves all around.
Back to the routine…after applying the B&B cream to the middle area of hair in a “squishing” motion. (i place hair in between my palms and squish it and rub it back and fourth kinda like making dread locks) Then I usually just air dry and run to work, but if I have more time or want more waves I do a little extra. At night I will twist into separate messy buns, pin and spray with a bit of hairspray. If i really want to get fancy with it, I will take large hair clips and jumble up sections of hair and clip to scalp making sure i give big waves to the top of the crown for volume. Then I let it out shake it and spray with Tresseme’ medium hold hairspray.
This will last for 2-4 days for me. If it gets a little frizzy or lackluster I will spray the ends with some Surf Spray by B&B as well. This stuff tends to dry my hair out, so use sparingly.
Voila’!
I hope I have helped you get that perfect messy beach hair without the trip to the beach…although, I’d much rather go there and enjoy the sand and get real beach hair;) o-well, this will have to do.
